Homemade non-toxic foundation powder

I can’t believe how easy this was. After looking at the ingredients of my store-bought powder which included many harmful, toxic chemicals, I had to make a switch. The best part about it, I get to smell like chocolate! You should be able to find all of these ingredients in your kitchen too!

Homemade foundation powder

I  have fair skin, so I used:

1 tbsp Arrowroot Powder (it’s like cornstarch, but GMO free)
1/2 tsp Cacao Powder(it’s like cocoa powder, but better for you!)
1/8 tsp Organic Cinnamon

(To add a sunscreen component to it, you could use 1/2 tsp of Zinc Oxide Powder. I used this powder when I made my own sunscreen bars this summer. )

You’ll have to play around with the amount for your skin type. I based my recipe off of Healthy Holistic Living where you can find out more combinations to create a powder that is best for your skin tone and you can read all the juicy details why you might want to make the switch to something more non-toxic for your skin. To use, dip brush in container and tap on rim to shake off excess powder.

Wondering what kind of brush I use? The brush in my picture is from the:

EcoTools BAMBOO Makeup Brush Set

I like them because it’s:

  • Synthetic Taklon bristles are 100% cruelty free
  • Sleek ferrule is made from recycled aluminum
  • Cosmetic brush roll is made from natural cotton and hemp
