Make your own toxic-free Citronella candle

Make your own toxic-free Citronella candle

We were sitting out on the front porch the other night enjoying the weather, but swatting bugs away. I’ve been meaning to make a candle for outside, so I finally got around to it. I had some leftover local beeswax from a candle that I had used up from the farmer’s market, so I was excited to re-purpose it for a new candle.

Supplies / Instructions

2-4 ounces of Beeswax (I used leftover wax from a plain, local beeswax candle)
1 Candle Wick
4 oz glass Mason Jar (any jar will do too!)
5 drops Plant Therapy Insect Shield Essential Oil or Citronella Essential Oil (you can use more or less oils depending on how strong you want the scent)

Using a double boiler or make your own by placing a glass bowl on top of a pan, melt your beeswax. While it is melting, prepare your jar and candle wick. Carefully set your wick in the center of the jar and wrap the excess around a pen or straw. Once your beeswax has melted, add your essential oils and mix. Carefully pour the mix into the jar and let sit until hardened. Trim the wick once it’s hardened and set outside while you enjoy the bug-free outdoors!
